09 APR : DESIGNER'S TIPS ON LIGHTING: BENJAMIN NORIEGA-ORTIZ Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz takes excerpts from his book, Emotional Rooms, and shines some light on his solutions for lighting an interior. “The most important and first thing to decide is how you want the room to ‘feel.’ The human eye cannot see without light. Lighting influences the way colors are perceived and therefore is crucial in finishing a room. A successful lighting design uses natural and artificial lighting sources, including fabrics and other materials, which in themselves provide their own light. When I am determining the way I'll illuminate a space, I try to combine at lease three kinds of lighting: task, ambient, and whimsical. |
